Statistics successful online dating relationships
Just under 600 people responded to the Relationships Australia online survey in November 2017.
Three-quarters (80%) of survey respondents identified as female.
One in every ten American adults has used an online dating site or a mobile dating app.
While there are no official statistics on the number of Australians using online dating sites, with industry bodies claim that around 4.5 million Australians are using this dating method each year, with online dating being the second most preferred way to meet a new partner behind introductions through family and friends.
As was the case for last month’s survey, more females than males responded in every age group (see figure 1).
Eighty-five per cent of survey respondents were aged between 20‑59 years, with more than half (58%) of responses contributed by women aged between 20-49 years (inclusive).
Some 79% of online daters agree that online dating is a good way to meet people, and 70% of them agree that it helps people find a better romantic match because they have access to a wide range of potential partners.
Yet even some online daters view the process itself and the individuals they encounter on these sites somewhat negatively.
